As we honor our nurses across Pipeline Health during National Nurses Week, we remember the legacy of Florence Nightingale (1820-1910), whose birthday ends the week–May 12. She was an English social reformer and statistician.
Nightingale’s lasting contribution is her role in founding the modern nursing profession. She set an example of compassion, commitment to patient care, and diligent and thoughtful hospital administration.
We are grateful to our wonderful nurses who follow in Nightingale’s footsteps each and every day. Following are some of Nightingale’s best known quotes.
“I attribute my success to this—I never gave or took any excuse.”
“For the sick, it is important to have the best.”
“Unnecessary noise is the most cruel absence of care that can be inflicted on the sick or the well.”
“The very first requirement in a hospital is that it should DO THE SICK NO HARM.”
