Pipeline Health is collaborating with TriVent Healthcare to open a specialized ventilator liberation unit in January 2025. The unit will be located at Pipeline Health’s East Los Angeles Doctors Hospital, serving medically complex patients suffering from prolonged mechanical ventilation. The collaboration will provide exceptional multidisciplinary care and significantly improve health outcomes for these high-risk patients in Southern California.

TriVent Healthcare has a proven track record of success with several hospitals, demonstrating exceptional ventilator liberation outcomes and patient rehabilitation. TriVent leads the industry in ventilated patient care, achieving a ventilator liberation rate of over 85%, which is more than 40% higher than the national average. In addition, patients in a TriVent unit have an average length of stay that is 32% shorter than the national average, and their likelihood of readmission drops by 80%.

“This unit is an important enhancement of Pipeline’s service to the communities near our hospitals and beyond,” said Pipeline CEO Robert Allen. “We’re confident that this collaboration will elevate the level of care for the complex ventilated patient population in our region, offering an effective and supportive path to recovery.”

The dedicated nine-bed unit will be equipped with state-of-the-art equipment and staffed by a team of healthcare providers specializing in accelerated patient recovery.

Patients receiving care in the new unit will benefit from comprehensive rehabilitation services in the acute care setting. This specialized approach of consolidating ventilated patients into a centralized unit enhances patient care and helps reduce ICU overcrowding, balancing hospital costs and optimizing resource allocation throughout the hospital.

“Our approach will ensure a monitored and controlled environment, offering personalized care with immediate access to both acute and critical care as needed,” explained Hector Hernandez, CEO of East Los Angeles Doctors Hospital. “We are excited to offer this important new service.”

Unlike traditional Acute Rehab Units and Long-term Acute Care Hospitals (LTACHs), the new Ventilator Liberation Unit will be an inpatient hospital unit combining medical management with aggressive respiratory and physical therapy.

“We’re excited to join Pipeline Health in collaboration to provide ventilator rehabilitation services,” said TriVent Healthcare CEO Sam Nimah. “Our specialized approach and dedicated team are committed to improving the lives of patients in Southern California by providing the highest quality of care and support throughout their recovery journey.”
